Our Wax of Choice

We’ve all heard any number of stories: the good ones, the bad ones and the ugly ones… but the truth is, there is no reason to fear waxing! At Total Body Wax, we use the best in soft wax and film wax products, infused with essential oils and natural ingredients designed to ensure the pores are open to allow easy removal of the hair follicle. This results in a relaxing and pleasant waxing experience.

Hard Wax vs. Soft Wax

There are a wide array of brands and types of wax available, but they all fall into two main categories: hard wax and soft wax. Soft wax may be what you usually think of when you think of body waxing. Soft wax is applied with a spatula before being removed using a muslin or similar strip. For this reason, it is often called “strip wax”. Total Body Wax soft wax products melt at close to body temperature so there is no danger of getting burned. We use soft wax products suited for use on sensitive skin, coarse hair or fine hair and large areas or small areas.

Hard wax is a little different. It is thicker and generally heated to a higher temperature. It is also applied with a spatula but greater care must be taken to ensure it does not burn the skin. Especially the older formulations. Once the wax sets or hardens, it is removed without the use of a strip by peeling it quickly off of the skin. For this reason, it is sometimes called “stripless wax”. Many salons believe hard wax to be better for small, intimate areas and sensitive skin. At Total Body Wax, we use a new formulation of hard wax referred to as “film wax”. It has properties very similar to our soft wax products, lower melting temperature, thinner application, and added ingredients to ensure proper adherence to the hair being removed. They are also great for areas were the hair tends to grow in several different directions.

Whatever your preference, we have the best products available for you. Our soft waxes and film waxes are ideal for Brazilian or bikini waxing. They are excellent for eyebrows and facial hair where the skin is much thinner. Whether the hair is coarse or fine, our waxes adhere perfectly allowing for removal in one stripping, resulting in a near painless waxing.

Hard Wax – Pros and Cons

  • Good for small and intimate areas.
  • Hard wax is usually applied in smaller areas as it is not efficient for use on larger areas of the body like legs, back, abdomen or chest.
  • Hard wax must be allowed to cool to harden once applied, thus making for a longer waxing session.

Total Body Wax Soft/Film Waxes – Pros and Cons

  • Soft/film wax is better at exfoliating the skin
  • Soft/film wax adheres better to the hair
  • Soft/film wax can be used on larger areas of the body
  • Soft/film wax is better for sensitive/thin skin
